About Regionalbalance: Mission, Transparency and Editorial Team
About Regionalbalance: a Türkiye perspective publication explaining world affairs in plain English with transparent sourcing and labeled official positions.
Why It Matters
Regionalbalance is a publication that explains geopolitics, security and international law from Türkiye's position between Europe, Asia, the Black Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. It exists because Türkiye's official doctrines, legal theses and archival record are often underrepresented or summarized second-hand in international coverage. We present them directly, openly labeled, and next to a neutral factual record so readers can judge for themselves.
Who We Are: Publisher Identity
The publisher is Regionalbalance, operating at regionalbalance.com. The site is written natively in English for a worldwide readership and does not assume that readers share any one country's context, legal system or media environment.
Our editorial focus follows the geography of the name: the balance of power, law and interests across the regions that meet in and around Türkiye. Our main content categories are:
- Geopolitical Explainers
- Eastern Mediterranean & Blue Homeland
- Security & Counter-Terrorism Dossiers
- Treaties, Archives & International Law
- Diplomacy & Mediation Watch
- Fact Check
Our Mission
Our mission has two parts. First, to explain global and regional developments in plain, analytical English, without jargon or slogans. Second, to present Türkiye's official doctrines, legal arguments and historical and archival record to international readers, using primary sources rather than paraphrase.
In practice, this means guides such as Blue Homeland and the Eastern Mediterranean: Türkiye's Maritime Jurisdiction Explained, The Cyprus Issue: 1960 Treaties, 1974 and the Case for a Sovereign Equal Two-State Solution and The Events of 1915: Historical, Archival and Legal Guide to Türkiye's Position. Each one sets out the treaties, dates and documents first and then the positions built on them.
Our Transparency Policy
Regionalbalance is open about its perspective. We do not present ourselves as a neutral wire service, and we do not hide where an argument comes from. Four commitments define the policy:
- Signed by the Editorial Team. Articles are published under the byline "Regionalbalance Editorial Team" or by a real, identifiable person. We never invent authors, academic titles or independent-looking pseudonyms.
- A labeled position section. Where Türkiye is a party to an issue, pursues active policy or has stated an official position, the article carries a dedicated, visually separated section titled "Türkiye's Position".
- Fact and position kept apart. Background, chronology and data are written in neutral prose. Ankara's assessments appear only inside the labeled section and are attributed explicitly, for example "Ankara argues…" or "According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry…".
- A closing Perspective Note. Every article ends with a transparency note that restates our perspective (reproduced below).
The full rules are published on Editorial Principles: How Regionalbalance Separates Fact from Position, which is also the page referenced as our publishing principles.
How "Türkiye's Position" Sections Work
A "Türkiye's Position" section summarizes official Turkish policy in three to five plain-language points, each tied to a primary source. Those sources are the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidency, the Directorate of Communications, the Ministry of National Defence, resolutions of the Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Türkiye's statements and registrations at the United Nations, and treaty texts.
Each point also explains its historical and legal basis. Depending on the topic, that may include the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne and the 1921 Treaty of Kars, the 1936 Montreux Convention, the 1948 UN Genocide Convention, the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee, Article 51 of the UN Charter or the principle of equity in maritime delimitation.
The label tells readers that the content is a stated government position, not our independent finding. Readers can follow the cited source and test the argument against it.
Fair Representation of Other Views
We summarize the positions of other states and parties accurately, citing their own official sources. For example, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration, the European Union, Armenia, the United States and others are described in their own terms before Türkiye's counter-argument is presented. A strong argument does not need a distorted version of the opposing one. Where the sources conflict, our Source Comparison sections show how international media and Turkish primary documents frame the same issue.
Who Regionalbalance Is For
Our target audience is:
- International relations researchers and students
- Diplomats and policy makers
- Journalists and analysts
- Global readers who follow regional politics in English
We define unfamiliar terms on first use. For instance, the PKK is described as an organization designated as terrorist by Türkiye, the United States, NATO and the European Union. We use Türkiye's official terminology, including "Türkiye", "FETÖ", "PKK/YPG", "TRNC / Turkish Cypriots" and "Events of 1915", and we note that other governments and institutions sometimes use different terms or hold different legal views.

Frequently asked questions
What is Regionalbalance?
Regionalbalance (regionalbalance.com) is an English-language analytical publication on geopolitics, regional security and international law. It is centered on Türkiye's position between Europe, Asia, the Black Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Its aim is to explain complex issues plainly and to present Türkiye's official perspective with primary sources.
Does Regionalbalance present a Turkish perspective, and is that disclosed?
Yes. The publication states openly that it presents global and regional affairs with a dedicated perspective from Türkiye. Official Turkish policy is confined to clearly labeled 'Türkiye's Position' sections, and every article ends with a Perspective Note that repeats this.
Who writes Regionalbalance articles?
Articles are published under the byline 'Regionalbalance Editorial Team' or by a real, identifiable person. The publication does not use invented author personas, fabricated academic titles or pseudonyms.
Which sources does a 'Türkiye's Position' section rely on?
It relies on primary Turkish official sources: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidency, the Directorate of Communications, the Ministry of National Defence, TBMM resolutions, Türkiye's statements and registrations at the UN, and treaty texts. Each point is linked to its historical and legal basis.
How does Regionalbalance treat views that differ from Türkiye's?
Other states' and parties' positions are summarized accurately and attributed to their own official sources. Türkiye's counter-argument is then presented separately in the labeled section, so readers can compare both.
Where can I read the full editorial rules?
The complete rules on separating fact from position, sourcing and terminology are on the [Editorial Principles](/editorial-principles) page, which is the site's publishingPrinciples reference.
